Position Overview
The Trailer Technician I is responsible for performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs on trailers, including dry vans and refrigerated units. This role focuses on ensuring trailers are safe, compliant, and operating efficiently while supporting overall shop productivity. The position requires hands-on mechanical skills, diagnostic ability, and a team-oriented mindset.
Routine Maintenance & Inspections
- Perform preventative maintenance on trailers.
- Conduct FMCSA/DOT inspections to ensure compliance.
- Inspect trailers for safety concerns, structural damage, and worn components.
- Perform lubrication, adjustments, and general service tasks.
Diagnostics & Repairs
- Diagnose trailer system issues, including ABS faults using diagnostic tools (e.g., Lite Check).
- Perform repairs on: Air brake systems (disc & drum) o ABS systems o Trailer body (dry van & reefer) o Liftgate hydraulic systems
- Conduct structural and body repairs.
- Perform welding tasks (stick, MIG, TIG).
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate service and inspection records.
- Document repairs, parts usage, and labor time.
- Communicate equipment issues clearly to supervisors and team members.
Teamwork & Communication
- Collaborate with drivers and technicians to ensure efficient workflow.
- Support team members to maintain productivity and shop success.
- Communicate repair needs and updates effectively.
Skills and Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable trailer repair experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Own basic set of tools.
- Welding experience (stick, MIG, TIG).
- Ability to diagnose ABS and brake system issues.
- Computer literacy for diagnostics and documentation.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with reefer trailers and liftgate systems.
- Familiarity with FMCSA/DOT inspection standards.
- Advanced diagnostic experience.

- Indoor shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy equipment.

Position Overview
The Diesel Truck Technician III is a highly skilled, senior-level technician responsible for performing complex diagnostics and advanced repairs on diesel-powered trucks and related equipment. This role serves as a technical expert within the shop, providing leadership, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring high-quality repair standards.
Advanced Diagnostics & Repair
- Perform expert-level diagnosis on complex mechanical, electrical, aftertreatment, and driveline systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair:
- Diesel engines
- Aftertreatment & emissions systems (DPF, DOC, SCR)
- Multiplexing & CAN bus systems
- High-level electrical faults and communication issues
- Transmission and driveline components
- Conduct engine performance testing, calibrations, and software updates using OEM tools.
Major Component Repair
- Perform engine component replacement (turbochargers, injectors, EGR systems, pumps).
- Replace major assemblies such as transmissions, differentials, and axles.
- Execute advanced brake, suspension, and steering repairs.
Preventative Maintenance & Compliance
- Conduct and verify all levels of PM (A/B/C) including advanced inspection points.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Identify root causes of recurring fleet issues and recommend corrective measures.
Leadership, Training & Technical Support
- Mentor and train Technicians I and II on best practices, troubleshooting, and repair methods.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex job assignments.
- Support shop leadership in quality control.
Documentation & Reporting
- Document repairs, diagnostics, and parts usage thoroughly in maintenance systems.
- Contribute to procedural improvements and standard operating practices.
Safety & Shop Standards
- Lead by example in following all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Identify hazards and take corrective action to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure proper use and care of shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
Skills and Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in diesel truck or heavy equipment repair.
- Advanced diagnostic skills with OEM software (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Detroit DiagnosticLink, Navistar).
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, aftertreatment systems, and data networks.
- Ability to read complex wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physically demanding work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal diesel technology education or equivalent experience.
- Multiple ASE Medium/Heavy Truck (T-Series) certifications, or ASE Master certified.
- OEM-specific training or certifications (Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Navistar, Allison).
- Experience training or mentoring other technicians.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- CDL Class A or B
Work Environment
- Shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy machinery.
- Requires standing, bending, lifting, and use of heavy tools.
- May require occasional outdoor work depending on facility setup.
Salary
Pay Range: $36.00 – $43.00 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and shift.

The Heavy-Duty Diesel Truck Mechanic – Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, performing advanced diagnostics and repairs on Class 7–8 trucks and related fleet equipment, and leading the maintenance team. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality repair workflows while maximizing fleet uptime.

- Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- Saturday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, mentor, and support technicians in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work orders to ensure timely and high-quality completion.
- Provide hands-on training, technical guidance, and performance feedback.
- Assist with onboarding new technicians, including safety procedures and equipment orientation.
Diagnostics & Repair
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on:
- Heavy-duty diesel engines
- Emissions and aftertreatment systems
- Transmissions and drivetrains
- Suspensions and brake systems
- Electrical systems
- HVAC systems
- Utilize OEM diagnostic software including:
- Cummins Insite
- Detroit DiagnosticLink
- Bendix ACom

- Tech Tool

- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure equipment remains compliant with all regulations.
- Support technicians with complex repairs and escalated technical issues.
Shop Operations
- Enforce safe shop practices, PPE usage, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Monitor inventory levels for parts, fluids, and shop supplies.
- Review and close work orders accurately, including labor time, parts usage, and repair documentation.
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Assist with scheduling preventive maintenance (PM) services to maximize fleet uptime.
- Support root-cause analysis for recurring mechanical failures.
- Communicate repair status, downtime impacts, and equipment needs with leadership and customers.
- Assist with warranty claims and vendor coordination.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Accurately document maintenance activities in fleet management systems such as Fleetrock, TMT, or similar platforms.
- Monitor technician productivity and overall shop performance.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and OSHA standards.
- Assist in preparing reports related to:
- Shop KPIs
- Equipment conditions
- Operational improvements
Skills & Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic (Class 7–8).
- Advanced knowledge of:
- Diesel engines
- Air systems
- Electrical diagnostics
- Aftertreatment systems
- Previous experience leading a team or serving as a senior/lead technician.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities using OEM software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physically demanding work in a shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL Class A or B.
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications:
- T2, T4, T5, T6, T7, or L2
- Experience using fleet maintenance management software.

Compensation
Hourly Pay Range:
$35.00 – $45.00 per hour
